Apple opens App Store submissions for iPhone Duo-optimized apps

9to5Mac reports that developers can now submit iPhone Duo-ready apps using Xcode 27.1, with mandatory screenshots required by April 2027.

Apple is now accepting App Store submissions for apps and games built for the iPhone Duo, according to 9to5Mac. The company released Xcode 27.1 Release Candidate 1 earlier this week, which developers can use to build and test their software for the new device.

In a post published on its Developer News Hub, Apple said that apps or games compiled with Xcode 27.1 will receive a badge on their App Store product page indicating they are optimized for iPhone Duo. Starting April 2027, any new submissions to App Store Connect must include screenshots designed for the iPhone Duo.

The company also emphasized that recompiling existing apps with Xcode 27.1 will add development support for the iPhone Duo. Developers can use Device Hub to preview how their apps appear in all poses and orientations on the new hardware.

Apple provided several resources to help developers prepare, and it will host in-person iPhone Duo workshops over the coming days, 9to5Mac noted.

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo begin Friday, October 16, with deliveries and in-store availability starting October 23. Customers can start preparing for pre-orders as early as October 12.
