Apple adds controls to stop annoying Messages AI suggestions

New settings in iOS 27.2 will let you turn off Siri's one-tap suggestions by category, or let it learn which ones you never use.

Apple is working on a way to quiet the AI suggestions that pop up in the Messages app, according to code spotted in the latest beta.

The feature, called Suggested Actions, offers one-tap shortcuts inside a conversation, like adding something to Reminders or Notes when a friend asks for a favor. It first appeared in the initial iOS 27 beta, but Apple pulled it after complaints that some suggestions felt random. It came back in the iOS 27.2 beta.

Now, developer and leaker pdfu found new controls in iOS 27.2 beta 3 that let you toggle suggestions off by category. You could also let Siri learn which categories you ignore and automatically hide any you haven't used in the past 30 days.

Apple describes the feature this way: Messages offers one-tap suggestions based on the context of users' conversations, making it easier than ever to get things done, such as creating a reminder or a note. For example, if someone asks for photos, Messages can also help users find the right ones, recognizing keywords, locations, and people in their library to find the best options.

The new options aren't live in the beta yet, but they should arrive soon.

Some people find the suggestions genuinely useful, and others, including 9to5Mac, find them more annoying than helpful. This change looks like Apple's attempt to please both sides.

What this means for you

If you've been bothered by random suggestions mid-conversation, relief is coming. Once the controls ship, you can turn off the categories you don't want, or set Siri to auto-hide the ones you ignore. No need to abandon the feature entirely if you like some of its shortcuts.

Until then, there's nothing to do but wait. The controls aren't in the current beta, so you can't try them yet. If you're on the beta and hate the suggestions now, your only option for now is to ignore them.
