Xbox Elite Controller 3 Leak Reveals Hall-Effect Sticks

A Reddit user discovered specs for the next Elite controller hidden in Xbox's Design Lab backend.

Engadget reports that a Redditor found details about Microsoft's next Xbox Elite controller by digging through the Xbox Design Lab's backend code and 3D models.

The controller, codenamed Edessa, will likely use Hall-effect and TMR analog sticks, which resist drift better than the potentiometer sticks in the current Elite Series 2, according to the leak. An upgraded haptics system with voice-coil actuators (VCAs) could provide trigger vibration similar to the PS5 DualSense.

Other leaked features include a dedicated audio scroll wheel, a performance D-pad with standard, cross and grippy options, low-friction silent sticks, and multiple paddle designs. Four SKU combinations appeared, labeled "Elite Complete" and "Elite Base," both with and without motors. Faceplate options listed metal, anodized designs and engraving.

The leaker, Reddit user u/esketitethan, said the files have since been removed. Some Reddit commenters questioned whether Microsoft would build its own Hall-effect sticks, while others noted the absence of a built-in gyro.

Engadget notes that earlier leaks and an accidental sale of what appeared to be the real device suggest the Elite Controller 3 could launch soon, though Microsoft has not confirmed anything.
