Vitamix MaxExtract Juicer: $500 Cold Press Worth It?
CNET got a first look at Vitamix's first juicer and says it lives up to the blender maker's name.

Reported by CNET
Vitamix announced its first cold-press juicer, the MaxExtract, on Monday. It goes on sale Oct. 15 for $500. CNET got an early look and says the company's move into a new category paid off.
The MaxExtract uses slow-masticating technology to juice fruits, vegetables and leafy greens. CNET reports that assembly took less time than expected, and you just chop produce into 2-inch pieces, drop them into the 5.3-inch hopper and let it run. A light-up front dial lets you switch it on, off or reverse for clogs, but CNET says it didn't clog even after several batches.
The juicer comes with a pusher, a cleaning brush, pulp and juice containers, plus two strainers: a fine-mesh for smooth juice and an easy-clean one for more pulp. The juice container has measurement markings. All detachable parts are dishwasher-safe on both racks, and the pulp outlet opens for easier cleaning.
Its dimensions are 17.7 by 8.5 by 7.7 inches and it weighs 8.14 pounds. You can remove the hopper and chamber from the base for storage. By comparison, CNET notes the MaxExtract is narrower and shallower than the $599 Nama J2, which weighs 12.1 pounds, and shorter but wider than the budget Hamilton Beach Easy Clean.
Available in black or white, the MaxExtract comes with a five-year limited warranty. CNET's writer, a first-time juicer user, says it converted them with smooth, fresh-tasting juice and easy cleanup.
Verdict: Buy. $500 is steep, but the build quality, five-year warranty and no-clog performance make it a solid choice for anyone who juices regularly. If you rarely juice or already own a good blender, wait.
