JBL PartyBox Ultimate 2: 1,500 watts for $1,800
JBL's biggest and most expensive speaker yet, but its size and price limit its appeal.

Engadget reports JBL's new PartyBox Ultimate 2, a 1,500-watt speaker for $1,800. It succeeds the 800-watt PartyBox 720 as the brand's most powerful and expensive model.
The speaker is 41.4 inches high and tips the scales at 120 pounds, about as much as a small refrigerator. It rolls on wheels and has a handle for movement. It also carries an IPX4 splash-proof rating.
Inside, JBL uses dual pro-grade PEN tweeters, two 5-inch mid-range drivers, and dual 10-inch woofers. The AI Sound Boost feature promises detail and clarity at every volume. There's also an EasySing AI Vocal Removal feature for karaoke.
The front panel can display ripple-wave light effects, multi-layer lighting, and floor projection. Wirelessly, it supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, AirPlay, Chromecast, and Spotify Connect. Inputs include lossless USB-C, optical, and XLR for DJ gear.
A top touch panel controls audio and lighting, a first for PartyBox speakers.
Pre-orders are open at $1,800. Shipping begins October 25, 2026. JBL offers free shipping to you, but you'll pay for return shipping.
Verdict: Skip for most. The PartyBox Ultimate 2 is a specialized tool for large parties and venues. At $1,800 and 120 pounds, it's overkill for casual listening. If you need to fill a big space with sound and lights, it's worth considering. For the typical home listener, there are better uses of that budget.
