iPhone 13 Pro vs iPhone 18 Pro: Five-Year Upgrade Worth It?
MacRumors compares the 2026 iPhone 18 Pro to the 2021 iPhone 13 Pro, finding significant gains in battery, camera, and connectivity that make upgrading easy to justify for most owners.

Five years after launching the iPhone 13 Pro, Apple released the iPhone 18 Pro in September 2026. MacRumors compared the two and found a long list of improvements that accumulate across nearly every part of the phone.
The iPhone 13 Pro introduced ProMotion, macro photography, a 3x Telephoto camera, and strong battery life. It still runs iOS 27 and remains capable. But the iPhone 18 Pro brings a larger Dynamic Island, an Always-On display, a 48-megapixel Main camera, USB-C, an Action button, and a dedicated Camera Control. The new model also adds a variable-aperture Main camera, vapor chamber cooling, a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, and a higher-resolution front camera with autofocus and Center Stage.
In the U.S., the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 with 256GB of storage – $200 more than the iPhone 13 Pro's 2021 starting price, though that model began at 128GB. The older phone is no longer sold new.
MacRumors says battery life may be the most immediate benefit, especially for an iPhone 13 Pro with an aged original battery. Faster wired charging and USB-C make daily use more convenient. The camera upgrades are substantial: all three rear cameras move from 12 to 48 megapixels, the Telephoto extends from 3x to 4x with an optical-quality 8x option, and the variable aperture adds creative control. Video creators gain higher frame rates, improved Cinematic mode, external recording, and professional formats.
The A20 Pro chip and vapor chamber cooling deliver the strongest performance case for demanding games and long recording sessions. The iPhone 18 Pro also supports Apple Intelligence, which the iPhone 13 Pro does not, even though both run iOS 27.
Trade-offs include larger, thicker, and slightly heavier dimensions. The aluminum chassis may be more prone to dents, and U.S. buyers must switch to eSIM. For those who need to delay a purchase, replacing the iPhone 13 Pro's battery can extend its usefulness. For owners ready to buy now, MacRumors calls the accumulated improvements an easy justification for upgrading.
