Ioniq 3 goes on sale in UK from £18,495

Engadget reports Hyundai's small electric hatchback is available to order in Britain, starting at about $25,000 after the UK grant.

Engadget reports that Hyundai's Ioniq 3, the compact electric hatchback first introduced in April, is now available to order in the UK. The base Advance trim starts at £18,495, about $25,000, after a £3,750 UK Electric Car Grant that every Ioniq 3 qualifies for.

Ashley Andrew, president of Hyundai Motor UK, said in a press release that the Ioniq 3 drew more pre-launch registration interest than any other Hyundai introduced in the country.

At that entry price, the Advance trim includes a 42 kWh battery and a 213-mile range. The range-topping N-Line Evo costs £31,945, around $42,000, and pairs a 61 kWh battery with up to 308 miles. The car runs on a 400V electrical system and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 29 minutes, though Engadget reports the time can vary slightly by battery size.

Hyundai says the Ioniq 3 is its first European model to use Pleos Connect, an infotainment system based on Android Automotive OS. Depending on the trim, buyers get a 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch display, and can add heated seats, a heated steering wheel, Highway Driving Assist 2 or Blind View Monitor.

Hyundai describes the Ioniq 3 as built for everyday European needs, and the company is not bringing it to the US. The hatchback is produced in Turkey, and Engadget reports US tariffs would erase its price advantage.

For US shoppers, the closest comparable is the Kia EV3, which starts around $31,000, alongside the slightly larger Hyundai Ioniq 5.
