Googlebook 'Better Together' updates add Samsung support

Google is rolling out updates to its Android sync features for Googlebook, including support for Samsung Galaxy devices and a smoother setup process.

9to5Google reports that Google is rolling out updates to its 'Better Together' sync features for Googlebook, the desktop platform built around Android phone integration. The changes include a simpler initial setup process and support for Samsung Galaxy devices, which were missing at launch.

Smoother setup and bug fixes

According to 9to5Google, Google announced on Reddit that the first-time pairing process has been streamlined, requiring fewer steps to connect a phone. A bug that left the pairing QR code on screen after setup is also fixed with this update.

To take advantage of the improvements, phone users need to update Google Play Services to version 26.37 and Cross-device Services to 1.0.1346, both available through the Play Store.

Samsung support

Missing Galaxy smartphone support was one of the biggest gaps at launch. Google originally said it would arrive 'in the coming weeks,' a timeframe 9to5Google notes was vague. The updates enable Samsung compatibility, and some Galaxy users have confirmed the features are working.

One requirement remains: devices need to be running One UI 9, which is currently only rolled out to a small portion of Samsung's lineup.

These updates bring Googlebook closer to the seamless phone integration it was marketed with, though users with older Samsung software will need to wait for One UI 9 to arrive.
