Claude brings AI sidebar to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides

Anthropic's Claude now offers a sidebar add-on for Google Workspace apps, letting paid users get AI help directly inside their documents.

Anthropic's Claude is now available inside Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides through a new sidebar integration, 9to5Google reports.

The Claude for Google Workspace add-on launched in public beta today. It opens a sidebar alongside your file in any of the three apps, helping you write, edit, and organize without leaving your document.

In Google Docs, you can use Claude to fix spelling, rewrite paragraphs, or restyle sections while keeping existing formatting. In Sheets, Claude can write formulas or build tables using the spreadsheet’s context, and you can upload extra files to generate new content. In Slides, Claude can create new slides based on your current layouts or themes and flag elements that might need updating.

There’s an “ask before edits” mode that shows a preview before changes are applied.

The beta is available to all paid Claude users through the Google Workspace marketplace. Anthropic also introduced new connectors for Docs, Sheets, and Slides that let you edit files directly from Claude by pasting a file link into your conversation.

If you're already paying for Claude, this add-on is worth trying. It promises to work alongside your existing workflow without breaking formatting, and the preview mode gives you control over every change.
