7 best movies to stream this weekend, per Tom's Guide

Our weekend streaming guide covers seven picks across services, from a $25 Spider-Man rental to an underrated Christopher Nolan film.

Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" trailer

Tom's Guide rounded up the best new movies hitting streaming services this weekend (Oct. 10-11). Here is the list, with our quick verdict on each.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

This MCU sequel costs $25 to rent on VOD (Amazon or Apple). Tom's Guide calls it "fine" but not worth the rental fee. We agree: wait for Disney+ and save your money.

Animals

Ben Affleck directs and stars in this crime thriller, now on Netflix. The plot follows a mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped. Kerry Washington co-stars. Tom's Guide describes it as a solid popcorn thriller for a lazy afternoon. Worth a watch.

Disclosure Day

Steven Spielberg's sci-fi film lands on Peacock. Emily Blunt plays a weather presenter who discovers aliens are real. Tom's Guide gave it 4 out of 5 stars, calling it an "instant Best Picture contender." A strong choice for sci-fi fans.

Matchbox: The Movie

John Cena leads this action comedy on Apple TV Plus. Directed by Sam Hargrave (Extraction), it follows a retired soldier turned CIA agent who drags his old friends into an international conspiracy. Tom's Guide says it's silly but fun, with great car chases. Good for a fast-paced movie night.

It Follows

Now streaming on Paramount Plus, this horror movie relies on suspense rather than jump scares. Maika Monroe stars as a young woman cursed by a supernatural entity. Tom's Guide recommends it for people who don't usually like horror. A slow-burn that keeps you on edge.

The Witch

Robert Eggers' directorial debut is on Prime Video. Set in 17th century New England, it follows a family descending into paranoia after their youngest son disappears. Anya Taylor-Joy stars. Tom's Guide says horror fans owe it to themselves to watch this before Eggers' upcoming Werewolf film. Dark and atmospheric.

The Prestige

Christopher Nolan's underrated gem is now on Netflix. Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman play rival magicians in Victorian London. The plot revolves around a teleportation illusion and the lengths one man will go to learn its secret. Tom's Guide calls it a must-watch for Nolan fans. Watch this one tonight.
