Xbox locks GTA 6 streaming rights – here's what it means
Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming will be the only service able to stream Grand Theft Auto VI at launch, with new pay-as-you-go pricing and strict hour limits arriving the same month.

The Verge reports that Xbox has secured exclusive cloud-streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI. That means only Xbox Cloud Gaming will be able to stream the game when it launches in November. It is not clear how long the exclusivity lasts.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees the company is doing something around GTA 6 that "no other platform holder is doing."
Rockstar has not announced a PC version of GTA 6. The streaming deal lets Xbox market its cloud service to PC players who don't own an Xbox or PlayStation 5.
The timing matters
Microsoft announced changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming around a month ago. Starting in November, the same month GTA 6 arrives, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers get 15 streaming hours per month. Premium subscribers get 10 hours. Essential subscribers get 5 hours.
Microsoft is also launching a pay-as-you-go option next month. That lets anyone buy a bundle of streaming hours without a Game Pass subscription. The timing is perfect for GTA 6: people who play on a phone or PC can stream the game by paying for hours directly.
What you should do
If you don't own an Xbox or PS5 and want to play GTA 6, Xbox Cloud Gaming with the pay-as-you-go plan is your only streaming option at launch. But watch the hour cap. 15 hours per month might not be enough for a game like GTA 6. The Verge notes the caps apply to Ultimate subscribers; pay-as-you-go users will have their own caps, not yet announced.
On the hardware side, Sharma also told employees that Project Helix, the next Xbox, will be a "family of devices" with partner-made models. That news is separate from the streaming deal, but it signals Microsoft is pushing cloud gaming as a core part of its strategy.
**Bottom line:** If you want to stream GTA 6 on launch day, Xbox Cloud Gaming is your only choice. Wait to see the exact pay-as-you-go pricing and hour limits before committing to a plan.
