OLED MacBook Pro to drive 50% surge in OLED notebook shipments in 2026, says report
Counterpoint Research projects that Apple's adoption of OLED in the next MacBook Pro will help boost premium display shipments, with OLED overtaking MiniLED.

Apple's next-generation MacBook Pro with OLED is expected to significantly lift the premium display market, according to a new Counterpoint Research report cited by 9to5Mac.
OLED notebook display shipments are forecast to rise 50% in 2026.
What the report says
Counterpoint expects advanced notebook display shipments to grow 11% in 2026 compared to 2025, far outpacing the broader notebook market, which it predicts will decline 3% year over year.
OLED is forecast to increase its share of the advanced notebook display segment from 56% in 2025 to 75% in 2026. MiniLED, currently used in the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, is expected to drop from 44% to 25%.
The research firm says Apple's adoption of OLED in its next-generation MacBook Pro is a key driver, alongside demand for premium AI PCs. Apple already uses a two-stack tandem OLED architecture in the iPad Pro, and is widely expected to use a similar approach in the upcoming MacBook Pro.
Technology improvements such as tandem OLED, which boosts brightness, power efficiency, and panel longevity, are also contributing to the shift.
Rumored launch details
The next MacBook Pro is rumored to be announced on October 27, with a touchscreen display and a redesigned, significantly lighter chassis, per 9to5Mac's earlier reporting. Counterpoint's projections assume Apple's transition to OLED will happen in that time frame.
Looking ahead, Counterpoint expects OLED notebook panel shipments to grow at a compounded annual rate of 26% between 2024 and 2030, with panel revenue growing 35% per year.
What this means for buyers
If you're in the market for a premium laptop, the shift to OLED promises better brightness and battery life than current MiniLED models. But the rumored MacBook Pro hasn't been announced yet, and pricing remains unknown. If you can wait, the 2026 models could offer meaningful improvements. If you need a laptop now, current MacBook Pro models with MiniLED remain strong performers.
