M6 Mac Mini drops to $779.99, first price cut

Amazon's October Prime Day deal is the first discount on Apple's new M6 Mac Mini, and it beats a restocked M4 for the same money.

Amazon has the base M6 Mac Mini for $779.99, which is $119 off the $899 list price. The Verge reports this is the first price drop on the new model, and it arrives as part of October Prime Day.

The 2026 Mac Mini keeps the same small chassis as the last generation. The change is inside: the M6 chip, which The Verge says is about 20 percent faster than the M4. The deal covers the base configuration with 256GB of storage, 16GB of RAM, a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU.

Know the price history

The previous M4 model debuted at $599, and the new generation starts at $899. Best Buy recently restocked the M4 version with the same storage for $799, but The Verge says to skip that one: the M4 has fewer cores and is less performant, so it is not worth the same money as the M6.

Verdict: Buy

Buy if you want a compact desktop Mac and were waiting for the M6 to go on sale. At $779.99, this is the lowest price yet for the new model, and the M6 is a real step up from the M4. The Verge's only complaint about this Mac Mini was the high price, and this deal fixes that.

Skip if you already own an M4 Mac Mini. A 20 percent speed bump is not worth $780 unless your current machine is struggling with your daily work.
